I love Nakd. bars! They are one of my favourite snacks. But they all come individually wrapped in plastic, and you might be aware that I’m trying my best to reduce my plastic/waste footprint. So, I’ve decided to have a go at making my own.
Ingredients:
- 2 cups / 500g dates
- 1.5 cups / 350g nuts of your choice
- 2 tbsp cocoa powder
- 1tp vanilla extract (optional and exchangeable for other flavours)
- A little bit of water (if necessary)
This recipe was taken from here.
The dates I used were dried as that is what I had in my cupboard, I softened them up a bit by sprinkling them with water and putting them in the microwave for a spell. I used walnuts and also added peppermint extract but you couldn’t taste it so you probably would wanna add a bit more than the recipe suggests. The chocolate flavour was very nice on it’s own though! I really can’t (or shouldn’t) bulk make food because if I know there is food that I can eat I won’t be able to stop thinking about it until it’s all gone. This is what happened with these.
Top tip: Nutribullets are not designed for this kind of thing (I learned that the hard way). Next time I make these I’ll use a proper top-fed blendery thing.
This recipe is super easy. You just measure it all out and blend it up. Once you’ve done that you can shape it how you like. I put mine into a loaf tin lined with a reusable baking sheet. Pop in the fridge for 30 mins to solidify slightly and then you an cut it into bars!
I think next time I will try making them into balls as trying to get this sticky mixture spread out into a tin was a bit of a mission!
As long as you keep the proportion of ‘wet’ to dry ingredients the same you can substitute anything in this recipe for whatever you like!
If you have made your own snack bars or have anything else to add, let me know in the comments!

Hey Jessica, They look yummy.
Etienne (my husband) makes chocolate balls. He uses a similar sugar free recipe but he rolls them in coconut when they are finished so that they don’t stick to your fingers. He keeps them in the fridge too.
I hope you are having a nice birthday. Whenever I give presents (even to children) I don’t wrap them up because I think it’s a waste. Sometimes it feels a bit weird because it lacks penache but wrapping paper seems like such a waste.

Oh, that’s a good idea – probably tastes great too! Yeah, I try not to wrap presents but if it’s something like clothes I try to wrap it in itself, f that makes sense so it still looks like a present. Thanks for reading 🙂
